Patients will often complain of constant pain in the neck and report of symptoms extending into the upper back, shoulders, and down the arm.  Clicically these symptoms are referred to as upper quarter pain syndrome.  Conditions such as whiplash and cervical herniated disc can produce muscle pain in the neck, upper back and upper extremity.

In this video, we describe the interrelationship of the various structures that make up the upper quarter and their contribution to what causes neck pain, shoulder pain, or upper back pain.
