If you’ve experienced lower back pain for any length of time and have seen your doctor about your condition, chances are you’ve had some x-rays or an MRI.  And, in many cases, a diagnosis of a herniated disc or degenerative disc disease has been made.

Although these conditions sound serious, they are actually very common.  Fact is that up to 85% of non back pain sufferers would be diagnosed with a herniated disc or degenerative disc disease if these diagnostic studies were performed on them.  As a result, treatment may be directed towards the disc when, in fact, another structure may well be involved.

Lumbar herniated disc treatment, cervical herniated disc treatment, along with pinched nerve treatments are all commonly prescribed as a means treating the condition.  While there may be good reasons to implement such treatment, many times the problem has nothing to do with disc.

Piriformis muscle dysfunction, for example, can produce severe pain in lower back along with sciatica lower back pain.  Likewise, muscle pain in the neck muscles can produce symptoms in the upper back and neck.  In both cases, the primary problem could very well be the muscle pain with the findings of a herniated disc or degenerative disc disease just incidental.

In this video we describe the process of a herniated disc and degenerative disc disease.  Once you understand the diagnosis, lower back pain relief, neck pain relief, and sciatica pain relief can all be more effectively achieved.

If your condition is clearly the result of a herniated disc or degenerative disc disease, surgery or epidural injections are not always the answer.  Lumbar herniated disc treatment to address a lumbar pinched nerve often times will incorporate spinal decompression in conjunction with some form of pinched nerve exercises.  Neck traction is an effective cervical herniated disc treatment that is often used for treatment of pinched nerve pain in the neck.
